Drop forging is a forging way that press heated round metal bar into the shape we need under the pressure of the mould. It will ensure the accuracy of dimensions and little machining allowance, no s tructure limit, high production efficiency. Genernal processes of drop forging are: mould developing - raw material cutting - heating material - forging - trimming cutting - heat treatment - shot Hot forging; Cold forging; Open Dies Hammer or Smith Forging: In the early days, we use this type of forging process. This is a very conventional type of process. In this process what we do once we heat the workpiece to the required temperature then we put the workpiece on the anvil by the use of tongs. Sledge Hammer: The sledgehammer used in striking on the workpiece by a driver and is heavier to hold by smith's hand. The different types are Double face, Straight peen, and Cross peen hammer. #8. Punch: The punch is made up of high carbon steel which is used for making a hot hole in the workpiece. Close die forgings made on a forging hammer is usually called drop forging. fi Fig. 2 : Schematic representation of closed-die forging Upset forging This process uses bar stock, which is heated at the end to be forged. The bar is gripped in the fixed halfof a die so that the length ofmaterial being forged projects. The forging blow is delivered (e) Gravity drop hammer. Forging Machines Forging Hammers • Gravity Drop Hammers -drop forging with a free falling ram; energy based on product of ram's weight and drop height •Ram weights of 180-4500 kg (400-10000 lbs) • Power Drop Hammers -downstroke is accelerated by steam, air, or hydraulic pressure •Ram weights of 225-22500 kg Technologically and economically, the forging hammer is still the best forming machine available to the forging industry. It provides a maximum of forming force coupled with lowest possible investment of time, cost and energy. The forming characteristics of forging hammers are ideal for a wide range of commercially available forgings. Metal forging is the method of manipulating metal into a certain shape. This is commonly done through one of two methods, drop forging and press forging. Drop Forging - With drop forging (also called hammer forging), the metal billet is inserted into the die and hammered with multiple blows. This process continues the billet is shaped into form. Drop Forging Drop forging is a metal forming process that a billet is inserted into a die and then hammered until it has assumed the shape of the die. The lower die is a stationary part, while the upper part is a moving hammer dropped onto the workpiece in order to deform it. Drop forging can be operated both at high or room temperature. 6- Tire Homemade Power Hammer Plans. Invented by Ray Clontz, from Charlotte, NC, the tire hammer is truly unique and easy to build. The operating mechanism runs smoothly and is easy to get a feel for so you can be forging like a pro from the beginning. The operating mechanism is simply a steel wheel on the motor shaft that rubs an inflated Hammer Forging Process Of Lever Drop Forging From Az31 Magnesium Alloy -A. Gontarz, Z. Pater, K. This is an easy-to-make power hammer that I would recommend for people who are looking for an e
