The UMC-200 includes an onscreen menu system that's very intuitive, and setting up the unit for the first time is a breeze, especially with the Emo-Q Gen2 on board. All you need to do is place the supplied microphone on a tripod in the money seat and follow the onscreen instructions. So what to make of the Emotiva UMC 200 pre/pro? It has a booby trapped volume function. It has a tremendously jittery digital input on coax (I didn't try the toslink yet). It has THD which isn't necessarily audibly awful, but it is substandard by modern standards. I didn't show the low level linearity where it is okay. People downloaded incomplete firmware and stayed angry. People sold or returned their UMC-1's and spent many times more money on Anthems, Denon, Onkyo, Marantz and even some supposedly higher end processors that still sounded suspiciously hard edged and harsh. But some of us read between the lines amid the complaints. The UMC-200 decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats, of course, but is otherwise blissfully free of extraneous surround modes. You'll find no "Stadium" or "Disco" settings here, thank heavens. It also features Dolby PLIIz (I'm a fan), but the manual is strangely silent on how to configure it. Emotiva UMC-200. Emotiva recently introduced a new preamp processor to their line of exceptionally priced products. This preamp processor is priced at $599 and includes many features that you would expect from a higher cost preamp processor. These include 4 HDMI inputs, 1 HDMI output with ARC, analog and digital inputs for a variety of non-HDMI In order to manually calibrate speaker levels in the UMC-200, you have to go to the Setup > Speaker Setup > Test Tones in the units menu system. This is a bit of a problem for those wanting to calibrate speaker levels using external tone generators since the UMC-200's internal generator isn't defeatable in this mode of operation. Emotiva's all-new UMC-200 will have you up and running fast with audiophile quality sound and super-responsive video. The UMC-200 delivers superb performance that no other processor near its price can match. It handles HD video and full 24/192 audio with ease, and can have you up and running with minimal fuss or bother - yet it still provides Setup was easy using manual mode (no Emo-Q auto correction). The parametric eq was a welcome addition for leveling out a critical room amplitude peak in the subwoofer tonal range. Overall finish and build quality is great. The silver applications on either side can be dismantled if one likes a pure black look better. Not good. I'll take the manual PEQ of the UMC-200 combined with the EQ functions of the Omnimic any day to properly set up sound and make the necessary adjustments to make it sound best to me. Manual EQ is better than auto EQ, just like manual transmission is better than auto transmission. ;) I own the UMC-200 and am perfectly happy with it.
