For starters, a wood router is a high-speed rotary tool with a collet on the end of the motor's shaft for connecting various router bits onto the motor. By using various bits, the woodworker can apply an almost limitless number of profiles onto the edge of a board. Many router kits include a single motor that can be interchanged between a pair Step 2: Connect to the internet. Turn on your router. You should see your router's indicator lights turn on, which may change color or blink while being configured. Be sure to wait a few minutes after you plug in your router. You should then see a specific light on indicating that your router is plugged in correctly. Over time, your ears can help guide your router technique. Follow these steps to rout the edge of a board with a bit that has a bearing: Set the bit to the final depth of cut and leave it there. Start routing. Hold the router bearing near the edge. The bit should only cut 1/3 or 1/4 of its final width. Rout the edge. Gently run the board through. Turn your router upside down and push the spindle release button close to the top of the device router. Loosen the spindle nut using a wrench, slide the bit through the spindle and tighten it in a clockwise direction. Do not overtighten. Clamp the working material in a stable work table since the spinning rate of the router bit is high. Make certain the bit is centered in the bushing. Fixing a misalignment is usually easy. Check to be sure the gap between the bit and bushing is even all around. Step 2: Attaching the Router Bit. Routers feature a threaded neck that the nut and collet fit onto. Attaching or changing the bit is easy. If you notice below the nut, there is a keyway on the threaded neck. You can hold the threaded neck with a wrench and turn the nut counterclockwise to remove the nut and collet. Mounting your router upside down in a router table greatly expands the tool's capabilities such as making mortise-and-tenons, raised panels and cope-and-stick-joints. Router tables are especially useful when shaping smaller parts, cutting stopped grooves, or using large-diameter bits. Get Your Groove On! Good luck with your new tool. Rousseau offers a sub base plate that has a removeable ring to mount PC style guide bushings. When removed the plate allows larger bits. A very handy idea. Like all mounting plates it is important to center your router to this sub base plate, and Rousseau offers a kit for $5 that makes sure you are dead center.
